Popped nails are very common in new construction. When homes are built, the wood is normally loaded with moisture, and as the wood dries out, it will slowly shrink and cause drywall nails to pop. You may think you just nail it back in, and spackle over it, but that is not the proper way.
Tools & Materials
- Cordless drill
- 1 1/4 inch wood screws
- hammer
- joint compound
- putty knife
- 150 grit sandpaper
- Hair dryer
STEPS
- Locate nail pop, push in drywall at pop and gently tap nail back in
- Using cordless drill, install one 1 1/4 inch wood screw approximately 1 inch above and below nail pop, slightly recessed in drywall
- Putty over screw heads and nail pop with joint compound
- Let dry, and install second coat of compound ( to quicken drying time, use a hair dryer until compound is dry)
